Trying to figure out how to return the unit. I have three of the Zojirush's for coffee and it keep coffee (and soup) scalding hot for 18 hours. The container is a good size and easy to carry. However, was hoping it would keep food hot. The Lunch Jar keeps the food moderately warm after just 4 hours -- even after pouring boiling water in the containers before adding food.
The chopstick holders are very useful, the addition of a spoon would be nice because the bottom container is made for soup.Top container for your Meat, Substantial Vegetables or similar. The bottom small bowl is great for desert or soup.Easy to clean, easy to carry. Terrific. While it appears small it holds more than enough for a grown man's lunch. The large middle is good for a salad or a main course of bulky food (I can even carefully fold 2 slices of bread into it).
I have a container for my midmorning soup, lunch stuff and dessert space. And since I like to munch on things as often as I can, this was great because it can hold so much food and keep all them separate. also very good for picnics, if you pack the containers pretty full, you definitely have enough food for two. In the morning, I packed my lunch and brought it to work. At 2pm, when I've already worked pass my lunch hour my food was still hot. All in one container with a bag where you can fit utensils.
You can put food for a whole family. As soon as I saw it was a nono. I liked this idea but item is huge in real life. Is like going around with a gallon of food.
By lunchtime, the cold section is room temp or warm, but that's okay. I have tried putting the top bowl in the freezer before putting the salad or fruit, etc. By lunchtime, the hot food is warm to steamy but not hot--still tasty though. I love the chopsticks w/case that fit so nicely on the side of the bento jar. I do find that the bento jar/chopsticks are great in helping with portion control if you are trying to watch your weight. in the bowl as well as put the side dish w/bowl in the refrigerator until the last minute before I leave for work.
I have not used it as regularly as I would like because of the preparation time in the morning to heat the bento with hot water and heat the food. I was excited to receive my Zojirushi Classic Lunch Jar/Bento after the reviews I read. I would have liked the soup bowl to have been slightly larger, found the middle section for the rice/main meal to be very ample as well as the top bowl, but I have yet been able to keep anything in the top bowl that starts out cold from getting warm from heat of the main bowl. If it bothered me enough, I would put the top bowl in the refrigerator at work.
